The discussion paper is a documentation of an expert workshop on environmental environmental cost accounting. The workshop was carried out by the German Federal Environment on Ministry 12 June 2003. Participants where representatives and experts from industry, science, NGO and consultants.Background of this workshop was an ongoing discussion on whether the development of a ISO – Guideline for environmental cost management should be encouraged by the German NAGUS, the body responsible for the ISO 14000 series. Core of the documentation are the arguments, which were exchanged in the workshop. In the discussion no consent between the proponents of a standardization initiative and the economic representatives of the BDI could be achieved (in German). Thus there will be no official German initiative for an ISO-New Work Item proposal in the near future.The appendix of the documentation contains the discussed draft for a potential ISO guideline, which was developed in the apron (in English). Another draft with a certain different alignment prepared by author is available on request.
