Abstract

On the basis of the areas of organisational need construction & housing, mobility and information & communication, the book examines how far advanced institutionalisation processes are with regard to the anchoring of sustainability among key groups of protagonists and what supporting and inhibiting factors can be observed. In order to examine the context for action by individual protagonists as well as their interlinking, neo-institutionalist concepts are drawn upon to elaborate the importance, legitimacy, dialogue processes and symbolic orders. On this theoretical basis, the results of a (qualitative) empirical survey in the three above-mentioned areas of organisational need are set out and subjected to comparative study. Differing degrees and differing paths of an institutionalisation of sustainability can be determined and concrete recommendations for action derived from this.
