Shamira Ahmed

Research ICT Africa

Shamira Ahmed is a Senior Researcher at Research ICT Africa (RIA) where she conducts evidence based research on the access and use of information and communications technology (ICT)  for sustainable, equitable and inclusive development in Africa and the global South. Her role involves providing research leadership on public interest research projects for evidence based digital policy and regulation recommendations, undertaking demand-side and supply-side research on ICT access and use, and conducting research on: the platform economy, digital trade, urbanisation, implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and datafication, and taxation of digital goods.
She has a keen interest in sustainable development economics, policy analysis, globalsation, digitalisation and structural economic change in low and middle income countries. Shamira is an Australia Awards Africa Scholarship recipient and completed her Masters Degree in International and Development Economics from the Australian National University, Shamira also has a BCom Honours in International Trade and Finance and a BCom in Economics and Econometrics, both from the University of Johannesburg.
