Christian Lautermann New Head of Research Field Corporate Management and Consumption at IÖW

Effective February 2018, Dr. Christian Lautermann assumes leadership of the research field Corporate Management and Consumption at IÖW in Berlin. The economist’s work focusses on topics of sustainable management, corporate ethics, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and social/sustainable entrepreneurship.

Before coming to IÖW, Dr. Lautermann taught and conducted research at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, where he served as a research associate to the Chair for General Business Administration, Corporate Management and Environmental Policy. In Oldenburg, working with IÖW founder Prof. Reinhard Pfriem and others, he developed over the course of ten years a critical approach to the theory of enterprise and was awarded a doctorate in 2012 for his work on socially oriented entrepreneurship. His various research projects have dealt with ethical management in the organic food industry, strategic corporate environmental responsibility (CER management), and the transformation potentials of energy cooperatives.

The IÖW research field Corporate Management and Consumption presently employs ten researchers, who are concerned with developing and testing innovative methods and instruments for sustainable corporate management, strategies to support sustainable consumption patterns, and practical concepts at the interface of production and consumption – in areas, for example, such as CSR communication and sustainable innovation management.

Lautermann succeeds consumption and product researcher Dr. Gerd Scholl, who has been with IÖW, as both associate and research field leader, since 1993 and has led the field of Corporate Management and Consumption since its emergence, in 2014, from the former IÖW research fields Ecological Corporate Policy and Ecological Consumption. With the completion of his current research projects, Scholl wishes to pursue new professional challenges as of May 2018. He remains closely associated with the Institute as an IÖW partner.
