Close cooperation between Brandenburg and Berlin is geographically, historically and politically obvious and is already taking place in many areas. Nevertheless, the potential of cross-border cooperation is far from exhausted. In his keynote, Prof. Hirschl first, presents the history and forms of cooperation. He then looks at the previous climate policy in Berlin and Brandenburg and the existing overall strategic framework of the capital region and examines which climate-related issues are already being addressed there.
Finally, potential further topics and requirements are derived based on the current scenarios for Berlin and Brandenburg, which Prof. Hirschl played a key role in developing as the main author and project manager. These show the great potential and the opportunities for closer cooperation. Also, they underline that achieving climate neutrality in both countries will only be possible together.
