Panel Discussion Decentralized, Citizen-oriented Energiewende – Unwanted or Inevitable?

Conference: Dezentrale Energiewende vor dem Aus?
Event by: IÖW
07.11.16, Berlin

Bernd Hirschl discusses the current situation in climate politics, in particular the Paris climate agreement, and finds that it needs more civic participation. He then analyzes the expansion of renewable energies as well as its limitation. After a discussion of perceived and actual bottlenecks in renewables expansion he explains the concept of prosuming as a key area. In conclusion, a citizen-oriented Energiewende is necessary to reach the climate goals, however, current framework conditions are unsuitable to make use of its potential.
