In his presentation, Prof. Hirschl shows the current status and the development of sectoral and overall greenhouse gas emissions in Brandenburg. Here it becomes clear that Brandenburg is still strongly characterized by emissions from the energy sector, especially from lignite. All other sectors follow at a great distance. In view of the current development dynamics, Brandenburg will not get on a climate neutrality path "on its own" despite the coal phase-out, because developments in most sectors are stagnating or even increasing. Moreover, the potential sink sector of land use is currently more on the path to becoming another source of emissions. These findings show that ambitious action is urgently needed in all sectors to get on the climate neutrality path together. How this can be achieved is next explored in the study.
