After Berlin has decided the fossil-fuel phase-out, the last brown coal power plant went offline in May. With respect to the further development, there are still important questions that have to be addressed. What are the federal political requirements to achieve the climate targets of the Paris Agreement and how can the coal-phase out be promoted? Addressing these issues Prof. Bernd Hirschl (IÖW) hold a speech on June 1st 2017, and subsequently discussed the topic with Georg P. Kössler (member of the parliamentary party Bündnis90/Die Grünen), Insa Vries (Ende Gelände) and Philipp Litz (Agora Energiewende). Subject of the discussion was the achievement of a socially acceptable heat shift as well as the Berlin Energy and Climate Protection Program 2030 and the introduction of a tenants electricity law. Also, the commitment of the Federal Government to the coal phase-out has been discussed and evaluated.
