“Opportunities and challenges of climate-adapted land use and sustainable bioeconomy based on the example Lusatia region” – that was the starting point of the Lusatia Future Forum on Land Use. At the two-day event organized by the Land-Innovation- Lusatia research alliance (LIL), 130 participants from agriculture, science, business, administration and politics as well as civil society exchanged ideas. The focus was on forms of sustainable land use and the development of a sustainable bioeconomy. The regional focus was on Lusatia, but other regions affected by structural change were also discussed at the event.
In the session “Regional bioeconomy, regional value creation? – Practical examples from Lusatia and other (rural) regions” Johannes Rupp was the central source of inspiration with his presentation. In various IÖW projects he deals with regional value creation and decentralization in the bioeconomy. In his presentation, he gave insights on selection criteria and examples of regional value chains in various areas of the bioeconomy, such as the processing of digestate into higher-quality fertilizers and products from the wood-based materials industry. He also gave insights into wishes, concerns and options for action regarding the bioeconomy, which he gained in regional dialogue formats. He concluded that there is the need for more societal dialogue and qualification of individual actors to achieve greater regionality and decentralization within the bioeconomy.
