Prosumer in the energy system – overview, potentials and insights from IÖW projects
The talk offers an overview of prosumers’ motives, potentials and possibilities. Owners and tenants who are interested in becoming prosumers, that is to say who want to produce and consume electricity, are largely concerned with the topic of personal consumption. A variety of technologies (e.g. solar energy, combined head and power schemes, batteries) can be at the basis of personal consumption. Furthermore, an intelligently organized personal consumption is crucial for the local and also for the general energy system. In this way, prosumers can produce additional grid and ancillary services. Which concrete measures make sense in this context depends on the prosumer’s situation, e.g. if they live in rural regions with overloaded grids or in urban areas with a shortage of land. The talk sums up the IÖW’s latest insights on the topic and concludes with a remark of how to approach this diversity.
