Keynote Security of supply and resilience of the energy system

Conference: 25th Rhineland-Palatinate Energy Day
Event by: Bingen Technical University of Applied Sciences
22.09.22, Bingen / online (hybrid)

The 25th Rhineland-Palatinate Energy Day in Bingen focused on the current challenges to the security of supply of the energy system. In his keynote speech, Prof. Hirschl was invited to highlight not only the short-term need for action but also the longer-term and fundamental aspects, taking resilience into account.

In his presentation on Security of supply and resilience of the energy system, Bernd Hirschl explained why a resilient energy system must have a high level of regionality and participation and why these are also prerequisites for a more resilient electricity system. Prof. Hirschl explained the current short-term strategies for overcoming the current energy supply crisis and then broadened the view to the security of supply of critical infrastructures (KRITIS) in order to focus on the increasingly digital electricity system. He explained the thesis that only a consistent regional energy transition with more participation will lead to more regional value creation and (therefore) acceptance, which is now the most critical success factor of the energy transition.
