Presentation Socio-ecologic Modernization of Residential Buildings – How to Motivate Property Owners?

Conference: 14. BMBF-Forum für Nachhaltigkeit
Event by: BMBF
06.06.18, Leipzig

As a great part of the existing housing stock is not sufficiently energy-oriented modernized, the Heating Sector has enormous potential when it comes to cutting CO2 emissions. The majority of the apartments are owned by private proprietors who are a central target group for climate protection measures. At the same time, especially in cities and regions with competitive rental markets, energy-efficiency modernizations can contribute to gentrification processes and rising rents. It is hence also important to consider social factors. The lecture illustrates cities’ and municipalities’ possibilities to motivate private proprietors to carry out energy-oriented redevelopments and shows ways for their socially compatible design.
