To implement the vision of a CO2-neutral, resource-friendly city the urban energy infrastructure has to be designed such that it supports a social-ecological transformation and such that it protects people and environment. Aspects of the heat supply play an outstanding role in this context. In the scope of the BMBF- research project “Urban Heat Shift” the IÖW in cooperation with the program Berliner ImpulsE of the Land of Berlin discussed on the Berlin Energy Days on May 4th 2017 innovative components for an environment and climate friendly heat supply in urban areas. Prof. Hirschl (IÖW) introduced the subject matter with an overview of the challenges and solution options for an urban heat shift.
