Medium-depth hydrothermal geothermal energy has the potential to make a relevant contribution to the heat transition. Nevertheless, it currently covers less than 0.5 percent of the total heat demand in Germany.
At the Energy Forum of Leuphana University Lüneburg, Tidian Baerens presented initial results of the ‘Warm-Up’ project. The investigations focus on the surface obstacles and success factors in the integration of medium-depth geothermal energy into heating networks. Also the presentation addressed political and social factors such as willingness to connect and acceptance.
