Bioeconomy – Comment on the statement of the BioEconomy Council

The BioEconomy Council has presented a study which deals with the perspectives and the action approaches to promote bio-economy. The basic orientation of bio-economy is that a fundamental change from the use of non-renewable resources to renewable resources in the light of the diverse challenges (overuse of resources, climate change, food security) is required. The IÖW dealt critically with the advice and the basic assumptions, as well as the action orientations. An important aspect was in particular the strong emphasis on the necessity of using new and even potentially risk-afflicted technologies and the neglect of possible behavioral changes for the solution of the above challenges.
