Investments of Germany's four big energy companies in the field of renewable energies - update 2010

The big four German energy suppliers - E.ON, RWE, Vattenfall and EnBW - are also committed to developing renewable energies. This impression is at least supported by television commercials, billboards and other marketing activities of the energy companies in recent years. But what proportion of their power plants and power generation is truly renewable? How much is invested in renewables, compared to conventional energy? Which importance do they have in specific medium-term plans and long-term corporate strategies? What is the situation across the corporate group and in Germany? How are the companies performing compared to each other and in the context of energy and climate policy objectives? In 2008 the IÖW carried out a study to answer those questions for the year 2007. The current update addresses the questions again and analyzes the situation for the year 2009.
