An implementation of coastal protection processes does not only affect the flood risk for coastal land uses, but also the natural coastal scenery, coastal biodiversity and groundwater quality. For decisions on coastal protection strategies it is necessary to take all these different dimensions into account and to weigh the effects against each other. To support the management and decision processes, the subproject of the IÖW assesses different management options and strategies from an extended economic perspective. Monetarizing the effects on coastal ecosystem services makes them comparable more easily in a single dimension.
