CC-LandStraD: Interdependencies between land use and climate change - subproject socioeconomic valuation of ecosystem services

Land is used intensively in Germany. It has to fulfill several societal demands. Competition on land use is supposed to increase with changing climate. But changes in land use do also have effects on biodiversity, waste treatment and nutrient cycling and many other ecosystem services. The aim of the project is to analyze interdependencies between land use and climate change and to develop sustainable land use strategies in terms of climate mitigation and adaptation. In the subproject ‘socio-economic valuation of land use strategies’ we focus on the relationship between agricultural land use and the influence of possible land use strategies on the provision of ecosystem services. Using an integrated cost-benefit analysis we identify costs and benefits of land use options to allow for comparison of alternative management strategies and their effects on the provision of ecosystem services.
