When it comes to energy-efficient district development, the question of whether heat for buildings will be provided decentrally (individually for each building) or centrally via a heating network is of great importance. The decision for or against a heating network depends on many influencing factors. A distinction must also be made between the neighborhood perspective and the perspective of the users (e.g. owner-occupiers and tenants).
This publication, which is part of a three-part series of publications on the topic, presents the methodological principles and assumptions behind the modeling and calculations. In addition to a description of the three type districts examined, the technological supply scenarios analyzed are also presented. The publication also contains detailed information on cost assumptions and the modeling methodology, as well as the socio-economic calculations.
