Guest Article: Berlin Climate Council Calls for an Emission-Free City by 2035

Berlin can counter the climate policy stagnation in the transport sector with just a few steps — and in alignment with economic interests – but only if politics and business act decisively together. The Berlin Climate Protection Council – which includes representatives from science, Berlin’s business community (Chamber of Industry and Commerce), municipal companies, and NGOs – unanimously recommends a clear yet realistic measure: the introduction of an environmental zone within the S-Bahn ring starting in 2035, where only zero-emission vehicles will be allowed to operate.
