For further regional expansion of renewable energies, the acceptance of the local population is increasingly becoming a critical factor for achieving climate neutrality. A key acceptance factor is the significant financial participation of the siting municipalities and others affected by the plants. With § 36k EEG 2021 and currently § 6 EEG 2021 n. F., the German legislator has taken a first step in this direction, but in the authors' view, they must allow significantly more regional forms of participation.
