Photovoltaics on municipal roofs – leasing the areas to third parties

The information sheet is aimed at financially weak municipalities that want to promote the expansion of renewable energies despite tight budgets. The aim is to draw attention in compact form to the potential of leasing municipal roof areas for photovoltaic systems and to provide practical tips for implementation. It will be shown that this model benefits the climate and the community at the same time. Due to the cooperation with third parties, the costs for the municipality are low. At the same time, it can set a good example and inspire citizens for the expansion of renewable energies. In addition, the construction and operation of photovoltaic systems creates added value and employment in the community. Best practice examples illustrate which municipalities have already successfully implemented the model.

In addition, the information sheet provides financially weak municipalities with tips on financing and implementation and refers to guidelines with further information.

The fact sheet is one of a total of five fact sheets on selected climate protection measures. These are intended to give municipalities and municipal players impetus for climate-friendly action. Other information sheets deal with the establishment of a climate protection management system, local e-CarSharing, the activation of homeowners through renovation campaigns and climate education in public spaces, using the example of the smart solar bench.
