Renewable Energies in Transport

Twelve partners from seven european metropolitan regions cooperated in "CATCH-MR", an INTERREG IVC project supported by the European Union which investigated “Cooperative Approaches to Transport Challenges in Metropolitan Regions”. The usage of renewable energies (biofuels, biogas, green electricity and hydrogen deriving from it) can be considered to be one of different approaches towards a more sustainable mobility. As especially rural areas like Brandenburg offer high renewable energy potentials, energy partnerships with metropolitan areas like Berlin could contribute to extend more climate friendly mobility patterns in the whole region. Based on the analysis of these potentials and an inventory among all partners, existing partnerships and the political need for action were showcased. The results were presented at an international conference of the project and have been published its newsletter and within in the final CATCH-MR Guide “Towards Sustainable Mobility In European Metropolitan Regions“.
