Sustainable Mobility – Challenges for a Complex Transition

Mobility is a top concern in current debates about a transition towards more sustainable patterns of consumption and production. In the paper the following challenges are reflected: a) complex and systemic nature of mobility patterns,  b) missing consensus about the precise nature of a more sustainable system of mobility, c) car dependency, and d) differentiation of mobility strategies and public policies.

This paper forms the background of a special issue on sustainable mobility.
