Renewable energy installations stimulate the economy through the monetary flows of salaries, profits and taxes, as well as job creation. The Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) has developed a model to quantify value added and employment effects generated by renewable energy technologies in Germany (WeBEE model).
This methodology was transferred to the Netherlands and then used to calculate the value added to the Dutch economy due to photovoltaic systems in 2015, the most recent year for which complete economic data was available. To understand how the value added is distributed, the results are presented differentiated by the components of value added, i.e. profits, incomes and taxes. Taxes are further differentiated according to administrative level (municipal, state, and federal tax revenues).
In addition, the results for the individual value-added stages – production, planning and installation, plant operation and operator profits – are presented.
