Speed up the research and realization of growth independence

In this article, Steffen Lange and Tim Jackson point out major contributions of the report “Social well-being within planetary boundaries: The precautionary post-growth approach” and indicate future research areas based on the report. The authors argue that the precautionary post-growth approach promises to spark new constructive debates among green growth and degrowth proponents. It makes sense to organized societal systems independent from economic growth and outlines how this could be achieved regarding social security systems and employment. Major additional research is needed to investigate in more detail how such changes can be achieved fast, as environmental changes such as regarding climate change also need to be implemented soon. Also, additional research should examine the political economy behind growth independence in more detail.
