Vortrag Making Sense of Climate Risks - Organizational Response to Climate Change Risks

Seminar: EGOS Colloquium 2012: Climate Risks
06.07.12, Helsinki

Recent climate-related extreme events show that climate change impacts are not a future but already existing risks for the viability of organizations. Organizations need to recognize these risks before they can pursue problem-solving or risk-reducing decisions. To detect risks that emerge from past and potential future climate change impacts on the organization’s functions they hence have to engage in risk sensemaking. The aim of this lecture is to contribute to organizational risk and climate adaptation research by analysing and presenting how interpretation and sensemaking processes of climate change impacts as an organizational risk unfold within or-ganizations. Therefore, relevant results of two qualtiative in depth case studies of a large German railway and energy company are given.
