Workshop 1.1 | Growth independence: A new approach to economic, social and environmental policy

The contrary positions of green growth and degrowth have long been the focus of discussion about how to overcome ecological and social crises. The corona pandemic shows that the climate crisis cannot be tackled by simply shrinking economic output. Green growth strategies have not led to an absolute decoupling of environmental throughput from economic growth. A-growth and the precautionary oriented post-growth position are compromise proposals, which could overcome the polarization in the debate. In this workshop, we will explore to what extent these concepts are suitable to identify ways out of the crises. How can they gain traction in society and policy-making? Which research gaps need to be addressed?
