Indirect land-use change (ILUC) leads to significant greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), so that biofuels might no longer save GHG emissions as compared to fossil fuels. The case study investigates sugarcane ethanol production in Brazil, provides figures for ILUC and identifies measures to mitigate ILUC.
