Conference: 2017 Annual International Conference Royal Geographical Society
Event by: Royal Geographical Society

The German government’s decision to phase out nuclear energy requests the transformation of Germany’s energy system encompassing a process of societal change.
The research project 'Climate-Citizen' examined how German local public authorities may foster 'energy citizenship' by engaging and taking advantage of 'their' citizens responsibly shaping the transformation process. Research investigated new and altered roles of individuals within this process: as consumers, investors/ producers and in the role of political protagonists.
The presentation focused on the particular project results on residents’ participation behavior, underlying psychological factors and on supportive influencing local framework conditions based on the main project outcome, the guidance 'Der Weg zum Klimabürger'.
