Operationalisation of Environmental Controlling Instruments through the Effective Use of Environmental Management Information Systems (INTUS)
Various controlling instruments were developed for environmental management at company level. Of proven value were inter alia company environmental input-output balance, environmental performance indicators and flow cost accounting (an environmental cost accounting method). Nevertheless the instruments were used predominantly in pioneering companies.
Against this background, the research project INTUS set itself the goal of examining and eliminating existing obstacles to application. The project developed answers to the following questions:
- What is the relationship between the instruments environmental input-output balance, environmental performance indicators and flow cost accounting and how can they be meaningfully combined?
- With what EDP solutions can the instruments be efficiently provided at little expense?
- How can the organisational obstacles be overcome when the instruments are introduced?
The results of this project are documented in several publications.
