Kommunikation für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung in der Region

The international research and conference project „KOMREG, Kommunikation für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung der Region“ was run by the IÖW in collaboration with the Zentrum für Umweltforschung (ZUFO), the DIGERUS office and the City of Münster. For 18 months, the KOMREG project, sponsored by the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (Deutsche Bundesstiftung : DBU), has promoted an intensive exchange between individuals and networks who work in the field of “sustainable regional development” in Germany and Europe.

The main result is that communication represents the constitutive element of sustainable regional development. The systematic approach concerning the thematic and organizational dimensions of aims, actors and instruments have clearly shown that a thorough investigation on sustainable regional development must be the consequence of the above dimensions. The first steps in the way were discussed during the preparatory expert-workshops and during the conference of the 25th and 26th January 2001 in Münster. It is matter of urgent necessity of evaluate a continuous simplified an professionalized comparison from practical know how and empirical knowledge between regional actors. The analysis and evaluation of processes for sustainable regional development will play a key role in the future.
