Less fertilizer and fossil fuels, more efficient value creation – the digitalization of agriculture has many advantages. However, it can also contribute to the intensification of agriculture. This article outlines why biodiversity conservation should become the key objective of digitalization. The potential that digital technologies can unleash for biodiversity and nature conservation strongly depends on the political framework conditions. Strategic state influence on the digital transformation of agriculture is therefore necessary to exploit promising potential and minimize potential risks.
