These series of publications was compiled in the context of the research project “INTUS - Operationalisation of Environmental Controlling Instruments through the Effective Use of Environmental Management Information Systems” promoted by the BMBF. It argues that the successful implementation and institutionalisation of innovative instruments of the environmental controlling require a high standard of organisational learning.
For this purpose first of all the paper describes the bases of organisational learning. Afterwards it will be dealt with the barriers of organisational learning processes. For the succesful introduction of environmental controlling instruments and to overcome the barriers, methods and measures for the promotion of the adaptability by enterprises are presented.
Finally, the connection of organisational learning processes and operational environmental management enclosing environmental controlling instruments and conclusions derived from it are presented.
