Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Services of Land Use Book chapter in: Interactions between Land Use and Climate Change

Land use management can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Germany. The inter- and transdisciplinary research project “Interdependencies between land use and climate change – Strategies for a sustainable land use management in Germany (CC-LandStraD)” was focused on identifying strategies for sustainable land use in the light of climate change. The IÖW team contributed an extended economic valuation of the associated ecosystem services. The analysis revealed that an environmental and nature conservation oriented strategy would generate a net benefit of nearly 3 billion Euro, a climate change mitigation oriented strategy up to 4 billion Euro, and a strategy that combines both targets could generate a benefit of 6 billion Euro per year.
