For the energy transition, it becomes more and more important to store power decentralized. This way, local produced renewable energy can be consumed flexible while relieving the power grid. An important component are battery storages which are used by several households commonly.
The project Esquire examined how power storage in districts or neighborhoods can be introduced, that fulfill two conditions: the users have to accept it, and they have to stabilize the power system. For operating these storages, services such as system stability, data security, storage of own energy or monitoring are needed. The project team developed these together with users and municipal stakeholders in the social, technical and economic framework. For the viable services, business models were elaborated and implemented, tested and evaluated in concrete districts.
