Investigation and support of two model communities for the assessment of municipal value added

The Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection commissioned the IÖW to calculate the value added of renewable energies of two local authorities in the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the last years the IÖW has researched and consulted intensively regarding the value added of renewable energies. A mathematical model for the calculation of the municipal value added and employment effects of different renewable energies was developed. The model has been adjusted for the application in North Rhine-Westphalia. After selecting both an urban and rural local authority, input data of installed capacity and economic indicators of renewable energy firms in these regions were conducted. The survey was performed in collaboration with SOKO-Institute, Bielefeld. Besides the calculation of current value added and employment effects, potential future effects have been investigated..
